So since the 2.5 is all but dead, and the 1.8T is supposed to be a more refined engine, wouldn't it make sense for VW to make a more affordable base version of the CC with it? I'd buy one if they hooked it up to the 6MT instead of the 5MT from the Passat/Jetta.

I'd buy one even hooked up with the 5mt. I'd have a 5spd Tiguan as a family hauler though, and for cheaper.

In Europe you can get it with the 1.4T. And the 2.0T, a V6 and a few diesel engines. Some, including the 1.4T, with a 6mt.

I definitely understand what ya mean. But these cars play in two different markets. The Tiguan is always going to win with a certain type of buyer, and the CC is always going to win with a certain type of buyer. You would probably be more interest in the Passat Sport than the CC then. It's got more room, a sport suspension, and the 1.8T/5MT combo.

Well yeah, in Europe. Over here it's either 3.6 VR6 or 2.0T. I wish they'd make one with the 3.0 TDI. A CC-Rd if you will.

Haha, I don't even have kids, and I'm not married. So that market is hopefully still in the future. I am going to enjoy my Gw250 and putting my feet on the furniture for just a while longer.

It wouldn't make sense since because the normal Passat already exists in this form. The CC is from another class and they made it that way so old Passat buyer still have something made in Germany and that is luxurious and not mainstream.

The idea is not bad, but i hope they won't do it. The purpose of the CC is not to be affordable, that's the Passat's goal

I mean, the platform would be the same. And supposedly the new engine is supposed to be as refined and nice at the 2.0T. It would just be more affordable and provide a good entry point for people that don't want to spend 30k on an old platform.

I almost bought a CPO '10 CC R-line 6MT, they can be had for a nice price in the used market. Then I drove one, quick and comfy but not as sporty as I would like.

I'm pretty sure the 2.0T is more affordable to build since they've been doing it for a decade... It's not the engine that makes the car expensive, it's the materials, the stock features etc..

I don't think they sell enough to make this viable. 964 in Feb, 881 in Jan. so far..

It's a B6 with a sport suspension and no real platform upgrades. That can only take you so far lol

The 1.8T is mostly just a de-bored 2.0T. And more importantly, has been around in other markets for quite a few years now. They've had the time for the cost of the engine to come down.

The 1.8T is pretty much a drop in replacement though. There would be next to no additional cost to make it, and could help push people to the car because it could be use to being the MSRP down to a more palpable level.

Certification, etc. etc. I think the CC is supposed to seem up-level from the Americanized products VW offers in any case.

If VW of America had any sense it would put the TDI in every model it offers. They both command a premium and depreciation is virtually nil, at least here in the Pacific NW. Why is there no Tiguan TDI for instance?

Agreed, but its not the same engine as the one you'd find in say a 03 GTI 1.8T...
